Mercedes-Benz Vito as London taxi
The Vito black cab!
More than 120 already on the road and 500 more on the way
London taxis need a special turni ng radius. A London taxi must have a turning radius of no more than 7.62 m between kerbs and 8.535 m between two parallel walls. These requirements have only been met by the ‘Black Cab’ until now.
Now the One80 company has developed a rear-wheel steering system for the Vito, which enables it to meet these stringent requirements and take to the roads of London as the only competitor to the TX4.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito was able to prevail against competing large-capacity vehicles thanks to its well-conceived technical features. Its rear-wheel drive system is inherently more favourable to a small turning radius. The “compact” length variant offers both a short external length and a generous interior with access and space for wheelchairs. Good economy is ensured by diesel engines with the latest injection and emissions control technology.
The 21,000 or so Black Cabs currently operating in London are now faced with a competitor for the first time. The traffic scene on London’s roads is now slowly changing with the introduction of the first 120 Vito taxis. Around 500 Vito taxis will gradually be entering service by the end of the year.

FIESTA VAN ECONETIC. BRITAIN’S ‘GREENEST’ SMALL VAN
Britians ‘greenest’ small van.
- Fiesta Van ECOnetic has lowest CO2 in its segment at 98g/km (76.3mpg*)
The new Fiesta Van ECOnetic proves form can exist with function and offers the same style that has made the Fiesta the UK’s favourite small car. With lowered suspension, low rolling resistance tyres and a specially-calibrated Duratorq 1.6-litre TDCi with coated diesel particulate filter, the Fiesta Van ECOnetic emits an ultra-low 98g/km CO2.
Produced at Ford’s wind-powered engine plant at Dagenham, Essex, the ECOnetic 90PS 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi produces 10 per cent less CO2 than the already impressive mainstream TDCi unit and is matched to aerodynamic improvements to deliver just 98g/km CO2 and a Combined 76.3mpg.*
This model underwent numerous modifications, most of them aimed at fuel economy and CO2 emissions, as the improved version will use 35 gallons less fuel in an average year as compared to the previous generation.
