No matter if jungle, stony terrain or desert landscape – the Unimog travelling mobile by Unicat can manage every location. On a basis construction of the Unimog U 4000 the conversion firm from Dettenheim, Germany, has constructed a very peculiar expedition mobile. The general-purpose camper MD56H has a 6×6 drive mechanism as well as a maximum wheelbase of 4.60 meters. The engine kept untouched and has a power of 218 HP with an eight-speed gearbox. The Unimog has a length of 6.13 meters – and a weight of 13 tons.
But a little bit of luxury is fine, also in the jungle camp: The cabin is about 12 square meters and accommodates a convertible suite, a 1.5 meter long double bed, a bathroom with shower and toilet and also a kitchen with a 430 liter drinking water tank. Thus a cosy feeling comes up, even in the jungle! Overall the cabin has a length of 5.2 meters and a width of 2.3 meters. The exterior height is about 2.15 meters.
The luxurious adventurer is provided with cold drinks from the 110 liter compressor-fridge when it’s hot outside. When it’s cold a hot air heating produces a warm and comfortable temperature inside. A 260 Watt solar module on the roof provides the power for the numerous electrical equipment on board. Whoever gets tired of the wildlife can get some diversion with the TFT-TV with satellite television and a DVD player.
The reason for this particular rebuilding of the Unimog was simply its size. In contrast to an off-road truck like the Mercedes-Benz Zetros the Unimog has a smaller front-surface. Therefore it’s also possible to ship the 6×6 Unimog in a container. For this way of distribution Unicat has developed a specific hydraulic set down and loading device. With this system it is possible to load the cabin first into a 40 foot seized container and after that the carriage. That’s the way how the legendary Unimog conquers also the oceans all over the world.
