The German Federal Police extends its vehicle fleet. The department has purchased ten new Sprinter 419 CDI. The vans’ future task is keeping the team in a good mood and providing them with food. Every Sprinter can serve up to 100 police officers.

40.000 employees of the Federal Police are subordinated to the German Ministry of the Interior.  Their assignment is to control the German borders and to combat violence across these borders. Further, they are responsible for the security of the railway system, the air traffic and other national institutions.

The new vehicles were solemnly handed over by Mercedes-Benz at the trade fair for General Police Equipment in Leipzig. Several directors of the Ministry of the Interior for technology and of the Federal Police District received the Sprinters. “We have reconstructed this model of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for the requirements of the Federal Police, especially for providing food”, says Hans-Joachim Bayer, the director of special and official vehicles from the Mercedes-Benz distribution Germany.

For the Federal Police it is important that the vehicles are economical, safe and also variable. Due to the high technical standards of the Sprinter Mercedes-Benz gained the commitment for the appointment in 2010. The vehicles are equipped with storage extensions and also have an own 230 V electricity generator. The catering is stored in big cooling boxes and refrigerators. Due to the sunblind, the radiant heaters and the electric lighting the food service is also possible in case of bad weather. Also digital radio and blue light may not be missing on board. So, the vehicles make a contribution to the internal security in Germany.
