Sun rays shine through the three tips in the dense alpine forest. In a clearing, a man wearing work boots puts down his pick as his son runs up and hands him a tree seedling. Together, they plant the seedling in the forest’s moist earth. The “Alpine forest protection program” aims to maintain the mountain forest. Through constant hard work, members and volunteers from the Austrian Alpine Association strive to protect the alpine flora and fauna. Mercedes-Benz Vans supports the sustainability project of the mountain friends with four Vito 4×4.
The all-wheel drive, nine-seater Vito 4×4 effortlessly handles the mountain roads and tracks covered in gravel, bushes and grass. The forestry workers use the vehicle to transport their tools and material. However, this time the Alpine Association’s Vito 4×4 has guests on board. In Obernberg in North Tirol, the association gains support from throughout the region. That is why it has initiated the “Mountain forest protection project”, a campaign specifically designed for families. Children and adults journey out and work in the forest: they learn all about how to correctly cut trees and work as a team to dig the holes for the tree seedlings. In the process, they maintain the forest’s vegetation. Because dense forest helps the ground to store water and also protects against avalanches. “This lets us give something back to nature”, says one participant. After the hard work, the Alpine Association has a delicious treat for the stalwart helpers: a hearty alpine soup prepared fresh over an open fire.
