One glance, one bite and the synapses start to celebrate: They cry “perfect place, perfect taste” and demand more. Preferably from the “Six-o-Eight” team who serve burger and hotdog creations with a generous side order of lifestyle in Freiburg. Pleasure, flavor, passion and attitude toward life – this is not just something you can feel and experience with the burger experts – you can eat it too. The fresh beef from the butcher next door, the regional vegetables and the freshly baked buns from the bakery are only one half of the equation. In addition to the fast food highlights with their specially created toppings and sauces, they also have a reliable partner. Without one, neither the bacon cheeseburger nor the chili dogs which gave the food truck its name would exist…
Tasty burgers from Six-O-Eight.
That makes the 30-year-old “Six-o-eight” Mercedes-Benz 608 a recipe for the success of the “honest hamburgers and hotdogs including vegetarian variants”. Its matte grey paintwork makes it anything other than a plain grey mouse. The pinup girl and just the right old school touch transform it into the American dream in Germany’s southernmost major city. The massive front of the 608 with almost ironic touch adds the essential element of relaxed casualness necessary to handle the sometimes hectic daily routine.
The Mercedes-Benz 608 is a real eye catcher: Pin up girls and nice lettering give it the old school touch.
As the namesake and mobile burger bar, the food truck was a real stroke of luck for the manager, Lola Hamui Heidel. After 14 years of managing a “small, very good restaurant” together with her former husband, she was on the search for a new restaurant. However, the enormously high leasing costs made the plan difficult. Then she discovered the 608. Its previous owners in Oberursel near Frankfurt had made the classic Mercedes-Benz into the “Six-o-eight”. But their future lay elsewhere and they sold the food truck to Lola Hamui Heidel.
The six-o-eight Unimog was conversed to a food truck in Oberursel. So they visited as well the people in Frankfurt am Main.
The Burger team and the 30-year-old Mercedes-Benz van have been inseparable partners since spring and are in a class of their own. The appealing and loyal companion on four wheels handles its job without complaint. Especially because, according to the Six-o-eight boss, the engines are “indestructible”. Comparable vehicles of the same type have broken the one million kilometer barrier. Given that passion, a way of life and the 608 belong together just like patties and buns, the team’s greatest reward is seeing the satisfied faces of their guests. But according to Lola Hamui Heidel, the best moment of all is when a new customer orders something from the 608 for the first time and immediately becomes a “Six-o-eight” fan after the very first bite.
