Package tour, classic travel agency – no, thanks!

Most good ideas come about when you’re not satisfied with what is out there. This is also what happened to Bernd Neff – the founder of I Love Travel, who has been working in the travel industry for over 10 years. He regularly attended the world’s largest travel fair – the ITB in Berlin. Around 180,000 trade and private visitors can look forward to a huge range of products and services: Hotel chains, destinations, airlines and tour operators have something to suit everyone’s taste, but really everyone’s? “Something was missing, the products are becoming more and more exciting and there is a need for advice and expertise,” Neff thought. There is a lot of information on the Internet, but it is not clearly arranged. “It takes a lot of time for each person to choose something from all the different offers. Travel agencies are growing again for this reason, but unfortunately there are not many cool ones.”

What’s important when setting up a business?

“I had secured the name years ago without knowing what to do with it.” I Love Travel was brought to life with the idea of bringing coffee table book providers, camper vans and origami art together with the end consumer. He founded the content platform and community for inspiration when travelling. The founding team includes two business partners who already have an agency and thus have the necessary infrastructure for the new company. “The first period was like a roller coaster. When we were able to win the first exhibitors like Panasonic and Sealander, everything became more tangible.” As a founder, you have to be diligent above all, says the Berliner. “You’re the one who’s responsible, you can’t blame it on someone else.”

From an idea to an event for 9,000 visitors.

Also you should not have any airs or graces, but should face the most diverse tasks. His team of twelve people does not have a typical working day – especially during production time everything has to be dealt with. After a great many phone calls, ups and downs, the time had come: In 2018, the festival invited adventurers and experts to prove their Globetrotting expertise for the first time: From industry leaders to start-ups, from sustainability to technology. MYVAN had also parked a Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo in the hall to be discovered. According to Neff, Vanlife stands for modern travel. “With #Vanlife you don’t travel with a giant motorhome, but in cool vans that people set up themselves. This is either a little freedom on holiday or an attempt to develop a new way of life for yourself.” That’s how Millennials live.

In addition to many trade fair stands, visitors were also able to listen to lectures – such as on the subject of “Vanlife”.
