Short vacation, road trip or vanlife: which van is the right one?

The camper van manufacturer Hymer trusts in the Sprinter as the basis

Whether a short trip, vacation or vanlife, whether Hymer, Sprinter, Marco Polo, Vito or Citan – The Mercedes-Benz cosmos offers the right van for every need and type of traveler. But which one is the right one?

The right van for every journey.

Vans from Mercedes-Benz are not only designed for commercial usage but also as vehicles for short trips, vacations and road trips. But before you decide to set out on an adventure in a camper van, you need to be clear about one thing: which vehicle is the right one for me and my planned journey? We are happy to help – and show you a number of camper van enthusiasts who have perfected living and travelling in a van.

For Jess and Jonny the Sprinter is more than just a van, it is their home and the basis of their travel blog “Rebel on a Rainbow”.

Citan Tourer – perfect for short trips.

Agile, economical, flexible, robust – and above all, far more than “just” the Titan of the city: the Citan Tourer is ideal for (family) days out or short trips – especially the extra-long, seven seater version. Because the small van with the star offers an amazing amount of storage space! In addition, the optional Off-road exterior package gives the Citan a more robust look. But the Citan is not the best place to spend the night, is it? That’s what you think! QUQUQ, for example, offers a KombiBox that quickly transforms the Citan into a small camper van with a bed, kitchen, water supply and storage space.

Incredibly practical: The KombiBox from QUQUQ transforms the Citan into a mini camper van.

The Citan from Mercedes-Benz is suitable for more than just day trips.

Vito Tourer – from a bench seat to a bed.

The Vito Tourer offers even more space and travelling comfort. Spending the night in the van is no problem at all – especially when it is fitted with the Mercedes-Benz bed package. The three-seater bench can be converted into a comfortable sleeping surface in a matter of moments. Together with the bed extension, it creates a full-length bed. Tinted glass in the passenger compartment protects the occupants from curious eyes.

Samara and Samuel demonstrate just how good life can be in the Vito. In 2014, the two quit their office jobs and moved into their van. Since then, they have travelled throughout Europe together with their dog, Pupi.

The Sprinter – the travel all-rounder.

The Sprinter is the absolute all-rounder. Whether for trades, construction, transport, as a logistics vehicle and in many other fields – The van that founded an entire vehicle class is so versatile that there are almost no limits to its users’ creativity. The Sprinter has also long been a favorite among travelers. Innumerable body manufacturers are experts in transforming the panel van from Mercedes-Benz into a spacious and luxurious camper van. The van itself can also be factory fitted with just the driver’s cabin and travel body – Setting no limits on the interior design ideas. Especially when travelling through areas with rough terrain, the Sprinter 4×4 all-wheel drive variant is the natural choice.

Do you need inspiration? We show you the most attractive and inspiring conversions along with the body manufacturers who made them.

The vanlife community trusts in the Sprinter.

In the vanlife community, the Sprinter is the most converted van. Some travel enthusiasts use it for road trips, others – such as the YouTuber Sergei Boutenko – use it as an outdoor and sport mobile for longer journeys. Others even live full time in their Sprinter. For them, the Mercedes-Benz van is a home, office and camper van all in one. The van nomads Jessy and Jonny from Go-Van are one such couple. Ian and Marit christened their Sprinter 4×4 ”Rhino”. Their mission: They travel throughout the world working to protect the endangered rhinos. Jozef Balemans’ story is just as impressive. He is paraplegic yet still incredibly mobile – thanks to his customized Sprinter 4×4.

Hymer and Mercedes-Benz as the travelling combo.

The Sprinter is capable of even more and can be converted into a true camper van with a shower, bed, kitchenette and other fittings. The camper van manufacturer Hymer trusts in the Sprinter as the basis. Four Hymer models are available depending on the needs and desired comfort: The partially integrated HYMER Van S stands for driving pleasure, agility and flexibility. The HYMER ML-T combines state-of-the-art drive technology and innovative lightweight design with the highest comfort to create an agile partially-integrated camper van. The Hymermobil ML-I is a classically stylish and agile integrated camper van in the 3.5 ton class built on a Mercedes-Benz chassis. The Hymermobil on a Mercedes-Benz chassis rightfully bears the name StarLine. This exceptional camper van is distinguished by its extensive standard features together with the sophisticated space concept and meet the needs of even the most demanding travelers.

In our MYVAN series covering a road trip in Scotland we show you the wonderful journeys that you can take with a Hymer.

Marco Polo for demanding adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts.

You want to simply set out on an adventure and have everything you need for the trip on board? Then the Marco Polo from Mercedes-Benz is truly the perfect solution. Travelling in style with the camper van based on the V-Class. Sleeping space for up to 4 people, drawers and cupboards for plenty of storage space, a small kitchenette along with folding tables for working or eating make the high quality camper vans with the star the ideal partners for families, sport enthusiasts and outdoor fans. The camper van is available in three variants: the Marco Polo, Marco Polo HORIZON EDITION and Marco Polo ACTIVITY. They all have one thing in common: a passion for mobility that meets almost every need.
