The connectivity solutions in the Sprinter open up new possibilities for its use.

The third-generation Sprinter is characterized by its connectivity. Mercedes PRO connect and the multimedia system MBUX open up joint intelligent, new possibilities.

Connectivity can lead to improved productivity.

Among the most important innovations in the third-generation Sprinter is the multimedia system MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). It can connect the driver with the vehicle, the vehicle with the Internet or a whole fleet of vehicles with the fleet manager. A range of newly developed digital tools are designed to help companies save resources and respond more dynamically to plan changes. The Mercedes Pro connect services can be easily operated via MBUX. However, this networking is also available for vehicles that are not equipped with MBUX. In this case, Mercedes Pro connect can be used via the mobile phone, for example.

The system “Mercedes PRO connect” networks the Sprinter in many different ways.

Operation via touch elements and language.

In order to use the services of Mercedes Pro connect, a communication module is required for the transmission of the data of digital services. This module is available ex works in the new Sprinter. The services can be controlled with the help of voice control and touch function and are therefore part of Mercedes-Benz User Experience. Alternatively, touch-enabled controls on the steering wheel can be used. The intelligent voice control recognizes idiomatic expressions – such as “The tank is empty” – and answers with reasonable suggestions, such as where the next gas station is located and how much the fuel costs there.

Connectivity also means getting a better overview.

“Mercedes PRO connect” is able to plan servicing and maintenance work on the vehicle well in advance. A second feature is the fleet management software. The fleet manager can track the routes taken by the vans and send changes of address, new orders or messages to the respective vehicles. If the driver is not in the vehicle, this information can be made available to him simultaneously on the smartphone app.

Interfaces in the vehicle.

Mobile devices with USB-C-connectors can be recharged above and below the dashboard. Wireless charging is also possible in the new Sprinter. In case you carry your laptop computer, there is a 12/115/230 volts socket available to you. The central element of the communication module is an LTE-capable internet connection. It can be used either in connection with the services of “Mercedes PRO connect” or as a hotspot for one’s own mobile devices.

Optimized navigation and a digital tachograph.

Another feature of the new Sprinter is its improved navigation. Internet connectivity means that the maps are always up to date. Another innovation is the address system “what3words”, which encodes each point on Earth into three dictionary words thus making it a lot easier to enter an address. The journeys themselves can then be recorded automatically in a digital logbook, thus facilitating the generation of automated business analyses.

Using a smartphone instead of car keys.

While driving, the new Sprinter gradually becomes acquainted with its drivers which enables it to indicate suggestions for new destinations, contacts or radio stations. Remote control of the vehicle is possible, too. For example, it is possible to check from any location whether a van from the fleet has been locked when the vehicle was parked. Conversely, the fleet manager can enable any employee to access the van – even if the latter does not have the key with him. The lock is opened via an app.

An intelligent modular system.

The Sprinter’s new MBUX is based on a modular design system. Thus, the individual functions can be adjusted to the specific needs of the company. By means of ongoing software updates, digital tools are adjusted and complemented with new ones even after the purchase of the vehicle.
