The Vito E-CELL is the winner of the category environment in 2012. The van is the first electric driven transporter worldwide that is produced in series. Since 2010 the vehicle provides an locally emission-free mobility. About 2.000 applications were submitted for the competition and the electric Vito could establish itself. The vehicle convinced the independent jury made up by scientists, managers, journalists and also politicians with its electric engine that was integrated into the existing Vito.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL is a very important key solution of our initiative ‘Shaping Future Transportation’. We’re convinced that our electric vans, no matter if it’s a container van or an estate car, make a contribution for emission-free transport solutions.” Since 2006 the initiative „Germany – land of ideas“ awards innovative projects that contribute to the sustainability of the German federal republic. The 365 chosen ‘landmarks’ symbolize creativity, passion and assertiveness of the people, every day of the year. The competition features 6 categories: economy, culture, science, environment, education and society.
