IAA 2014: Kickoff for the Vans!
Mercedes-Benz Vans ready to roll
There they are. Ready for loading. The journey to this year’s IAA in Hanover is about to begin for the Sprinter, Citan and naturally also for the new Vito. Specialists from the Mercedes-Benz Vans press team in Waiblingen near Stuttgart have put the brand-new vans in tiptop condition. They have removed the protective films, polished the vehicles and fitted accessories. “The IAA preparations have been going at top speed for three months. The new Vito, which celebrates its public premiere at the IAA, is one highlight”, explains Thomas Konzelmann, the Team Leader for Technical Product and Media Support in the Mercedes-Benz Vans Development Department.”We have prepared several vans for the IAA. Sprinter, Vito and Citan have been equipped with exhibition lights and a diverse range of details are perfectly highlighted. The art is to make the vehicles look like true commercial vehicles without one single sign of use.”

Off to Hanover
That is why the perfectly prepared IAA vans do not drive to Hanover themselves. A specialized carrier company loads the vehicles into trucks. One small truck transports three Citan vans. Another carries two Sprinter. When professionally loaded, a long truck is even capable of transporting three brand-new Vito. Many other vans are still waiting to be loaded and receive one final polish in the factory hall. The vans need about seven hours for the journey to Hanover. Then the preparations will continue so that everything will be absolutely perfect when the expo’s doors open on 23rd September. Naturally, Thomas Konzelmann and his team will be on location: Just in case. “After more than 15 years of IAA experience there is basically nothing which I haven’t seen. But I’m still excited about what this year has to offer and how the IAA will go”, he says with a laugh.
Regardless of what job you have to tackle – the Sprinter will make your day-to-day tasks easier. And even if those tasks are weighty ones, together, you’ll move mountains. Thanks to a host of different variants and over 600 optional features, the Sprinter can meet a wide variety of requirements.
