Whether tense muscles, back pain or high blood pressure. Sometimes only one thing helps to deal with stress: leaving life's cares behind and checking into a health spa. But the journey and the accommodation put a dent in one's wallet. Unlike the Zen Ten Spa: The mobile five-star health spa based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter travels directly to its customers' doorsteps – driven by the former BBC journalist, Caroline Jones.
The Zen Ten Spa concept is easy to explain: Send in a booking request, get into the spa Sprinter and get out again, relaxed and happy, after the treatment. "The idea for the Zen Ten Spa occurred to me while I was sitting in the whirlpool during a spa vacation. I listened to other guests complaining about the long travel times and the high costs for the accommodation," explains Caroline and continues: "I knew that my job at BBC would end soon and decided on a career change. I decided to establish a spa concept focusing on exactly these needs."
Caroline's idea in the whirlpool became a reality: Her mobile Zen Ten Spa is based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter which has been specially adapted for her needs and somewhat resembles the new Mercedes-Benz UPS Sprinter on the outside. The van sports the "Zen Ten Spa – The Retreat That Comes To You" lettering. In contrast, nothing inside resembles the cargo area of the Mercedes-Benz van. Every detail of the interior has been designed to look like a treatment room at a spa hotel – from the vehicle floor to the roof, everything is illuminated by soft lighting and the air is scented with the smell of essential oils. The treatments are carried out by gentle candlelight. A place usually dominated by stacks of cartons and the smell of work has been transformed into the perfect place to recover from the stress of day-to-day life. The British therapist had no difficulty choosing the brand with the star: "Zen Ten Spa is a luxury brand. That is why I needed a vehicle brand which is also associated with luxury and good taste. In addition, both my car dealer and the interior designer who handled the conversion and the design gave me excellent advice."
No matter where it aches, is sore or tense: Caroline's program offers the right treatment for every need: from hot stone massage to acupressure or anti-cellulite treatments to foot reflex massage. Caroline also offers her customers coaching to help them keep a clear head despite their demanding lives. When asked how she relaxes and unwinds after a busy day, she also has a solution: "I am close friends with a number of therapists in my network and I occasionally treat myself to a well-being therapy, as well."
Caroline travels a lot with her mobile Zen Ten Spa and has had to overcome more than a few challenges with her new company: "One of the hotels which I work for is located in a historical building. The first time I arrived there with the spa we had to check whether the Sprinter would actually fit through the gate. If it had been too narrow then, unfortunately, we would not have been able to work together. In England you can be jailed if you tear down a historical wall. Yet the hotel absolutely wanted the spa and would even have removed some of the wall if my van had not fit. It was a very tight squeeze. But luckily I made it through in the end." Caroline is faced with boredom as rarely as an empty appointment book. “At the moment I work in a radius of roughly 50 miles around Warwick. This covers the largest area in central England." When asked whether she would travel to Germany with her spa, she has to laugh: "That would be a little bit too far. But if the price was right then I might reconsider."
