It is pitch black outside and you have the feeling that you should still be in bed at this time of night. Long after the sun has gone down and far before the first rooster crows, the fleet belonging to the Jizerské Pekárny bakery in the Czech city of Česká Lípa is bustling with activity. Bread rolls, bread, sweet pastries and confectioneries all need to be delivered on time to the major bakery’s 40 branches and 500 customers so that no one has to go home without breakfast or bread for morning tea.
To ensure punctual delivery, Jizerské Pekárny does not do things by halves. Originating from a state-owned operation in 1993, the company relies on the combined power of Mercedes-Benz and literally supplies the daily bread with its vehicle fleet consisting of Sprinter, Vito, Viano and Citan. But before the drivers can leave with the fresh goods, the bakers and schedulers still have a lot to do.
After 6 o’clock in the morning the phone lines are running hot. One order after another for the next day arrives. Things really take off after lunch. The bakery is a hive of activity with the bakers preparing doughs, sliding one tray after the other into the large ovens before removing the delicious-smelling breads a short time later. In addition, cakes are lovingly decorated and sugar coating is applied to the sweet confectioneries.
Around 350 employees are behind the success. Seven days a week and 363 days a year. Because the Jizerské Pekárny never cools its heels and is only closed on 25th December and 1st January. Nevertheless: when kindergarten children bite into the fresh doughnuts with a big smile during Carnival or blow out the candles on a birthday cake, then all of the employees know that they are doing the job right and making people happy.
Moments like these always fuel the motivation. Jizerské Pekárny is distinguished by far more and reflects the philosophy of “we bake with flavor for you”. The bakery is the market leader in the Czech Republic with its gluten-free baked goods and its gluten-free “Jizerka” flour mixture.
Because of the extensive demand the products are even sent throughout the entire country by parcel service to customers with food allergies. There are also customers in Germany who place their orders via the online shop. The gluten-free products are also extremely popular in Slovakia and in Poland.
Alongside the employees, the fleet is an essential factor to handle the demand for the products from the bakery in Česká Lípa. That is why 39 Sprinter along with Vito, Viano and Citan are on the road in around a 100 kilometer radius and meet the demands placed on them. Day after day, the vehicles have to guarantee “operational readiness, reliability and endurance”, explains Petra Pruchova from Jizerské Pekárny. In addition, the Sprinter need to run for 10 years or 700,000 km.
The vehicles from Mercedes-Benz fulfill these requirements and that is why they are part of the major bakery’s successful company concept. The experiences have been so positive that the company has relied on the brand with the star since 1998 and since then has purchased 79 vehicles and traveled a proud 28,945,285 kilometers with them. A figure which speaks for itself – and never stops growing. Because Jizerské Pekárny’s customer will continue to receive fresh and tasty baked goods every day.
