The “Box at Work” start-up solves big-city problems
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter from “Box at Work” are always on the road, helping inner-city inhabitants to have more storage space.
An idea grows into something big
Gerrit Jan Reinders has lived in Amsterdam for a long time. He is familiar with the typical problem of life in a major city: not enough space to store all of the things you accumulate over the course of time. This was the original reason why he founded the “Box at Work” start-up in 2014. The principle is simple: customers can order the characteristic green boxes and the according storage space via telephone or online. The boxes are delivered to the customer’s home and can be filled with whatever the customer wants. The boxes are then collected again and stored in one of the company’s large warehouses. It all began with only five people in the office and two runs per day. Now 18 employees take care of the customers and around 40 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter are always on the road, storing the boxes at 21 locations with a total of 100,000 square meters. Not a bad development. But the journey has not always been simple.
Customers trust us with their personal property every day. We do not want to disappoint this trust.
Beginnings are always difficult
Initially, the company’s positioning was a challenge. And the company’s resulting growth was not exactly easy: “The most difficult thing was to keep pace with the company’s growth. We were not yet ready for that, especially in the first year”, explains Reinders. The rapidly increasing demand meant that the company needed more employees to serve the customers. At the same time, the financing also had to be secured. However, the growth ultimately succeeded: “This primarily succeeded because of franchising contracts and partnerships with logistics companies”, explains the company’s founder. Today, “Box at Work” has become an established brand for box storage. Reinders’ top priority is always 100% customer benefit: “Customers trust us with their personal property every day. We do not want to disappoint this trust.”
The young start-up Youstock has found a solution for the lack of space in large cities and implements it with theMercedes-Benz Vito.

Always on the road: the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
Reinders also trusts in his fleet of vehicles: The drivers have a fleet of more than 35 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter to deliver and collect the boxes to and from the customers. The orders are sent to the driver per app via an online system. Why did Reinders choose the Sprinter? “Good, strong vehicles with low operating costs. Plus they also represent what our company stands for: quality and reliability.” Customers store a vast range of different objects in the boxes. 80% of the users are private customers. Collectors, who no longer have space for their books, records or other collections, are typical customers. In contrast, 20% of the users are companies who usually use the services as a long-term archive for documents and files.
